Featured Donor: Coffee by Design
Coffee by Design, with four coffee shops in and around the Portland, ME, area, was established in 1994 and has been a supporter of Coffee Kids for over ten years. The company’s fundraisers include customer donations to Coffee Kids in exchange for burlap sacks and a community arts-and-crafts fair where local staff and artisans sell their wares and donate all proceeds to Coffee Kids.
Mary Allen Lindemann, community builder at Coffee by Design, is proud of her work in support of Coffee Kids’ mission. “We have chosen Coffee Kids because of their outstanding work, which empowers families in coffee-growing countries to develop sustainable communities,” she explains. “The money we send is not a handout in any way. It is put to good use in order to guarantee a sustainable living for the people who produce the outstanding coffees we have the honor to serve our customers.”
In addition to their fundraisers, Coffee by Design recently established an employee payroll deduction program. The January staff meeting included a presentation about Coffee Kids. Following the presentation, two employees requested that an employee payroll deduction program be started to further support Coffee Kids’ work in Latin America. Coffee by Design now invites all their employees to make a per-check donation.
“Coffee by Design ought to be proud of their employees as they are committed to supporting coffee-farming families at origin,” said Carolyn Fairman, executive director of Coffee Kids.
